WILLIAM Lea 
WILLIAM was born in 1623 in Lea Hall, Cheshire, England.1 WILLIAM's father was WILLIAM Leigh and his mother was MARY Dawkes. His paternal grandparents were JOHN Leigh and JOYCE Romney; his maternal grandparents are THOMAS Dykes and ? Radclyffe. He had two brothers and a sister, named John, Thomas and Mary. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 40 in 1663 in Surry County, Virginia.1 General Notes

William Lea b c 1623 was witness in Surry Co., VA, Feb. 28, 1647, executor of Gregory Rawlings on June 3, 1653 & sells to William Thomas in 1653; buys 500 acres in Charles City Co. on Surry border in 1654 & lists William Lea as one of 10 persons imported; in 1655 assigns the same 500 acres to Rutherford & Curry in Charles City Co.; in 1663 William Lea sold 350 acres of Surry land to Peter Greene on or before Feb. 21, 1663. Perhaps had 4 sons: James Lea (living with son James Jr., Dec. 25, 1712 in Beaufort Precinct, North Carolina (see Exec. Council of Colonial Virginia, p. 9, 11 Vol., June 11, 1680-Oct 28, 1739); Francis Lea (Francis Leigh, Esq., Member Executive Council of Virginia, July 15, 1680, Aug. 3, 1680, see Exec.
