Owen Riley Griffith 
Owen Riley was born on November 10th, 1922 in Rock, Mercer Co, West Virginia. Owen Riley's father was Owen Riley Griffith and his mother was Lessie Mae Wright. His maternal grandparents were James Edward Wright and Minnie May Davis. He had three sisters named Mildred Pauline, Carolyn Wright and Living. He died at the age of 80 on January 23rd, 2003 in Princeton, Mercer Co, West Virginia. He was buried on January 25th, 2003 in Monte Vista Park Cemetary, Green Valley, West Virginia.General Notes
PRINCETON - Owen R. Griffith Jr., 80, of 1009 Hinton St. in Prince-ton, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at Westwood Health Care Cen-ter in Bluefield, Va.
Born in Rock, he was the son of the late Owen R. and Lessie Wright Griffith Sr.
He retired in 1986 as president of First Community Bank in Princeton. He was a 1941 graduate of Princeton High School. He attended Emory & Henry College until he entered the U.S. Naval Aviation program in 1943. He was commissioned in 1943 and served as a flight instructor at Pensacola Naval Air Station until 1946. In 1946 he entered the WVU College of Law earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree. Returning to Princeton he worked with Burton and Shaffer Law Firm and eventually Shaffer-Griffith Law Firm until 1973. He then joined Princeton Bank & Trust Co. as trust officer and went on to become senior vice-president & trust officer and eventually president until his retirement.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Princeton where he was a charter member of the Earl Graham Sunday School Class, past member and three-time chairman of the Administrative Board and served on numerous committees and councils of the church. He also served the Methodist church as Bluefield District Trustee, alternate lay member of the West Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and as a Trustee for United Methodist Charities in Charleston.
He was a past member of the Mercer County Board of Education serving as president in 1964, past member of the Princeton Mercer County Chamber of Commerce serving as president in 1966, member of the Mercer County Bar Association serving as president in 1968. He was also a member of the West Virginia State Bar, West Virginia and American Bar Associations, Princeton Elks Lodge No. 1459, Princeton Rotary Club, Princeton Salvation Army Advisory Board, Mercer County Airport Authority and former chairman of the city of Princeton Zoning Board of Appeals.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, June Tabor Griffith of Princeton; one daughter, Deborah L. Griffith of Princeton; one son, Barry M. Griffith of Charleston; one brother, James E. Griffith and wife Vergie of Dickson, Tenn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Neil Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Monte Vista Park Cemetery in Green Valley.
