William Burt Land 
William Burt was born in 1831 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. William Burt's father was Burell Land and his mother was Lucy Matilda Williams. His paternal grandparents were Littleberry Land and Mary "Molly" McLemore. He had four brothers and three sisters, named James D., Littleberry John, Henry Grey, David A., Mary Jane, Mary Katherine and Evalina. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children.-
