Martha Ann Charity was born in 1837 in Edgecombe Co. NC. Martha Ann Charity's father was Duncan Hargrove and her mother was Sally Land. Her paternal grandmother was Charity Hargrove; her maternal grandparents were Littleberry Land and Mary "Molly" McLemore. She had five brothers and seven sisters, named Samuel Henry, Gray Lemon, Thomas Daniel, James Burrel (Burwell), Edward L, Mary Elizabeth, Frances Deller "Della", Sara Nina, Florence Anna, Malvina Catherine, Ina Elizabeth and Louisana Jane. She died at the age of 64 in 1901.-
