Michael Decalb Charles was born on October 10th, 1826 in Cash District, SC.1 Michael Decalb Charles' father was Warren Charles Spradley and his mother was Alcey D. Malone. His paternal grandparents were James, Sr. Spradley and Mary Manning. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Chapman Levi, James John, Bryant Augustus, Zachariah Tucker, Sarah Ann, Caroline Amelia and Frances Jane. according to that census Samuel was born in 1771 in NC.

Michael moved his family to Calhoun Co., where he was farming. He was
killed in an accident in St. Clair Co. His grandson, Flint Elmer
Spradley told B. Elmer Spradley that Michael was carrying a load into a
hog pen and fell. The hogs killed him before any one could help him.
One source has his burial as Honoraville, Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
