Mary Elizabeth M. was born in 1847 in Montgomery Co., AL.1 Mary Elizabeth M.'s father was Samuel Spradley and her mother was Martha Thrower. Her paternal grandparents were Bryant A. Spradley and Frances Payne. She had four brothers and three sisters, named James J., William, Jefferson Davis, Samuel Thomas, Martha Jane, Alabama Hawkins and Frances Malinda. She was the oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 40 in 1887 in Crenshaw Co., AL. She was buried in Helicon Cemetery, United Methodist Church, Crenshaw Co., AL..1 1 General Notes

Your name sounds familiar. Perhaps we have corresponded before. Are
you a Spradley descendant or a professional researcher?
Mary Elizabeth Spradley and James Benjamin Bonner were my great
grandparents. According to my mother, Mary Sue Bonner, Mary Elizabeth
committed suicide by slashing her wrists. My mother did not know why. On
a trip to Luverne, I searched the old newspaper files for an article on
her death, but did not find one. (The old newspaper file is in bad shape.)
Thanks to my wife's keen eye, we found Mary Elizabeth's grave in the
old (Methodist, White) cemetery at Helicon. While I was enjoying the
excitement of finding the wrought iron-fenced and well marked graves of
my great-great grandparents, Robert Archibald Bonner and Louisa C.
Bivins, Helen spotted a crudely marked grave behind and outside the
wrought iron fence. Who was Mary E. Bonner; she asked? My great
grandmother! Before, we had not even known where she was buried. Her
grave had apparently been installed and marked by a J. W. Bonner. James
Benjamin Bonner had a brother named John William Bonner.
I have a good deal of info on the Spradleys. Maybe a feasible thing
to do would be for me to e-mail you my db and for you to send me yours if
you have additional. With an iteration or two, we can come up with
consensus databases. My db goes back 5 generations before Mary Elizabeth
to Andrew Spradley as apparently does yours.
I'll try to e-mail you Andrew down through Mary Elizabeth's
generation.

Southeastern Alabama Era, by Travis Jackson Hagler. Library of Congress
No. 94-72938. We have learned some additional things since the book was
published.
