William James Shaw 
William James was born on February 14th, 1855 in Coosa Co., AL.1 William James' father was Thomas Calhoun, Sr. Shaw and his mother was Mahala Logan. His paternal grandparents were Hugh Shaw and Elizabeth Finley; his maternal grandparents were Henry Logan and Martha Ann George. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Hugh, Thomas Calhoun, Jr., Frank David, Elizabeth, Mary Catherine, M. Eliza and Amanda. He was the third youngest of the eight children. In 1880 Federal Census of Coosa Co., AL: William James age 26, listed as
a farmer has living in his household the remaining brother and sisters.
They are Elizabeth, Eliza, Amanda and Frank David. All are listed as farm
hands except for Elizabeth, who is listed as Keeping House. It is
believed that much credit should be given to Elizabeth and William for
keeping the family together after their mother, Mahala Logan Shaw, passed
away. Mahala Logan Shaw was the daughter of Samuel and Catherine Logan of
Coosa Co., AL.
