of burial is unknown, but during the Civil War it was common practice for
civilians to bury fallen soldiers they came upon in unmarked graves in

Up to the present time very little is anything is definitely known about
Thomas Calhoun Shaw until he showed up in Coosa County, Alabama and
married Mahala Logan on November 23,1843. We have, however, came across a
number of things which lead us to believe that he probably was a brother
of the Hugh and David C. Shaw which lived in Coosa County at the time.
It has been noted that Thomas Calhoun Shaw and Anthony Leethem Shaw
(2nd son of Hugh and Mary Shaw) were pretty close, seeing the number of
times they appeared together as witnesses to land sales.
Years later, Frank David Shaw, the youngest of Thomas Calhoun Shaw
and Mahala Logan Shaw was to move to Louisiana and settle at nearby
Jamestown.
Both William James Shaw and Thomas Calhoun Shaw, Jr., sons of Thomas
Calhoun and Mahala Logan Shaw claimed that Lewis L. and Anthony Leethem
Shaw, sons of Hugh and Mary Leethem Shaw, were their first cousins. This
would indicate that Hugh and Thomas Calhoun Shaw were also brothers.
Should the above stated facts be proven true and they are indeed brothers
the was will be clear to trace the family back to a Patrick Shaw, who
came to America around 1600 and beyond.
