Joseph Alexander was born on September 18th, 1858 in Coosa Co., AL.1 Joseph Alexander's father was Mark Emanuel Murphy and his mother was Martha Ann Logan. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Drury Murphy and Edy Jackson; his maternal grandparents were H. Alexander Logan and Martha Ann Smith. He had two sisters named Nancy J. and Laura Emma. He was the second oldest of the three children. He had three half-brothers and a half-sister, named Eli Walter, Berry Wilbert, John Thomas, Sr. and Arminue Alice. I was at the library today and found the following that helps to explain
the
elusive Joseph Alexander Murphy, son of Mark Emanuel Murphy and Martha Ann
Logan.
The 1900 census of Coosa County, Hanover beat, lists the following:

Since Joseph Alexander's first wife (Tellelah Belle Adams) died Feb. 23,
1891,
the Margaret P. must be another wife and all the children born after 1890
are
either their children or his step children. This contradicts information
from
you, Ron, that Clara Beatice was the wife of Joseph Alexander (b.
1858)--It
was his daughter or stepdaughter.---I wonder if she may have been a
stepdaughter and married Jno. A. Murphy--or is he the the John A. Murphy
who
married Mattie Jones on 9-15-1907 in Coosa County??
Also vertified the only Joseph Murphy again as living in Coosa County in
the
1880 census but think he may be different and may belong to someone else
or is
this the same man??--any ideas??. Here is what I found on this family.
