Robert Gerald was born on December 30th, 1917 in AL.1 Robert Gerald's father was Stewart Washington McEwen and his mother was Nancy Clyde Coker. His paternal grandparents were William Powell McEwen and Martha Georgiana Adams; his maternal grandparents were Wesley Terry Coker and Martha Jane Messer. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Stuart Wilbur, Howell Coker, Marion Wesley, Jane, Sara and Martha Clyde. He was the third oldest of the seven children.
