Newton Canida was born on November 18th, 1844 in Coosa Co., AL.1 Newton Canida's father was Jasper Kirkham McEwen and her mother was Mary Ann Canada. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Bort McEwen and Rachel Hawkins; her maternal grandparents were Jesse Canada and Sarah Jones. She had five brothers and seven sisters, named George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Francis Marion, Benjamin Franklin, Robert Jasper, Elizabeth Amanda, Mary Ann, Almeda Emaline, Minerva Rachel, Virginia Caroline, Martha Margaret and Sarah Louisa. She was the second youngest of the thirteen children. She died at 6 months old on June 14th, 1845 in Tallapoosa Co., AL.1 General Notes
