Thomas Martin Hinson 
Thomas Martin was born on February 10th, 1868 in Troy, Pike Co., AL.1 Thomas Martin's father was Mastin Asbury Hinson and his mother was Lucinda S. Rushing. His paternal grandparents were William Hinson and Martha Ann Pugh; his maternal grandparents were William Cain Rushing and Mary Ann Rushing. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William Mastin, John Elbert, Joseph Richard, Jesse Cleveland, Carrie Lee Ola, Fannie Lou and Pollie. He was the second oldest of the eight children. The Hinsons and Gibsons were neighbors and according to family stories,
Tom and Annie got engaged when Annie was only eleven years old. She was
only 16 at the time of their marriage.
As a young man, Tom and his sisters formed a quartet and traveled the
county singing gospel songs.
Tom and Annie packed up their family in 1904 and followed Asbury and
Lucinda to Texas. They moved first to Wood County, then into the big
"Love Springs" house with the Moodys and Hinsons.
Tom is described as being close to six feet tall and about 200
pounds. He wore his hair a little long in the back and he always wore a
big Stetson hat. Annie was small and dumpy, about five feet tall. She
had red hair when she was young.
