His maternal grandparents were Thomas Carlisle and Sarah Harper. He had eight brothers and two sisters, named James Thomas, Rainer Matt, William R., Francis M., John Perry, George M., Jasper Newton, Walter Lee, Martha Francis and Harriet A.. He was the third youngest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 68 on July 6th, 1942 in AL.
