William R. was born on February 5th, 1864 in Hanover, Coosa Co., AL.1 William R.'s father was Rainer B. Dobson and his mother was Harriet Ann Carlisle. His maternal grandparents were Thomas Carlisle and Sarah Harper. He had eight brothers and two sisters, named James Thomas, Rainer Matt, Francis M., John Perry, George M., Jasper Newton, Edward P., Walter Lee, Martha Francis and Harriet A..
