Sarah Castellaw 
Sarah was born in Scotchneck, Halifax Co., NC.1 Sarah's father was James, Sr. Castellaw and her mother was Sarah Williams. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Castellaw and Katherine Hutcheson; her maternal grandfather was John, Jr. Williams. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, William, James, Jr., Betha H. and Katherine. She died on June 11th, 1818 in Muhlenberg Co., KY.1 General Notes

Sarah Castellaw Barfield went blind after the birth of her first child.
She never recovered her eyesight. After her husband's death close to the
end of the war, Sarah went to live with her son Thomas. Althought Sarah
was the mother of nine children, Frederick was the only child whose
features she ever saw. According to "The History of the Barfield Family",
Sarah lived to be ninety years old and was ever cheerful and apparently
happy.
