Mariah Elizabeth Bridges 
Mariah Elizabeth was born on January 7th, 1855 in Coosa Co., AL.1 Mariah Elizabeth's father was William Bridges and her mother was Delila Jane Jacks. Her paternal grandparents were William Bridges and Mary Tatum; her maternal grandparents were John Jacks and Jane Maxey. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Alvin Lafayette, John William, Mary, Susan Jane, Martha A., Frances S., Cordelia and Clementine. She was the fourth youngest of the nine children. She died at the age of 72 on July 17th, 1927 in Coosa Co., AL. She was buried in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Hanover, Coosa County, AL..1 1 General Notes

In the 1870 Federal Census of Coosa Co., AL, taken on 6 Jul 1870 and in
the Vicient Beat, an Elizabeth Bridges is listed as 16 years old, born in
AL, and residing in the dwelling of J. A. Logan and his wife. The Census
recorded her attending school in that year. Elizabeth's future husband,
George Gothard, is also listed as residing in the dwelling of J. A. Logan
as working on the farm. George is listed as 19 years old and born in AL.
On June 22, 1997, I was informed by Bryce Miller that Elizabeth Bridges
lived with a Logan family as an orphaned.

"A Glorious Fourth
Quite a number of families gathered at the residence of Mr. Levi
Washam’s, better known as the Logan Place, and spent the fourth
gloriously in the beautiful grove. They served ice cream, lemonade, and
coca-cola, and at twelve o’clock the ladies began to spread white cloths
and my! My! Such a grand dinner they have prepared. Everybody ate to
their satisfaction. Those being present were Mr. and Mrs. W. S Washam
and two children, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Gothard and two children, Mr. and
Mrs. Miller and daughter, Miss Jeannie, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Gothard, Mr.
and Mrs. Acie Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Coon Washam, Mr. and Mrs. I. J.
Gothard, and Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Gothard.
Late in the afternoon a few songs were sang and played and all began
to leave for their homes praising the good time and the dear old fourth."
