Sir Thomas de Beauchamp Earl of Warwick 
Sir Thomas de Beauchamp's father was Thomas de Beauchamp Earl of Warwick and his mother was Katherine de Mortimer. His paternal grandparents were Guy de Beauchamp Earl of Warwick and Alice de Toeni; his maternal grandparents were Sir Roger de Mortimer Earl of March and Joan de Geneville. He had six brothers and eight sisters, named William de Beauchamp, Guy, Hierom, Julian, Reyburne, Thomas, Philippa, Maud, Agnes, Alice, Catherine, Isabel, Joan and Margaret. Thomas de Beauchamp, 4th Earl of Warwick, K.G., was appointed by parliament governor of the young king, Richard II, in the third year of that monarch's reign, but did not long enjoy that office, for we find him in arms with Thomas, Duke of Gloucester (the king's uncle), long before the majority of Richard, constraining the assembling of parliament, for which proceeding, however, in several years afterwards, he was seized at a feast given to him by the king--tried and condemned to death--a sentence commuted by the king at the insistence of the Earl of Salisbury to banishment to the Isle of Man, while his castle and manors of Warwick, with his other estates, were granted to Thomas Holland, Earl of Kent, to whom the custody of his son and heir, Richard Beauchamp, was also confided. From the Isle of Man, the earl was brought back to the Tower of London and imprisoned there during the remainder of King Richard's reign; but upon the accession of Henry IV [in 1399], he was released and reinstated in all his honours and possessions. His lordship m. Margaret, dau. of William, Lord Ferrers, of Groby, and had issue, Richard, his successor, for whom King Richard II and Richard Scrope, then bishop of Coventry and Lichfield (afterwards archbishop of York), stood sponsors; Katherine, d. young; Margaret, Katherine, and Elizabeth, nuns. Thomas II de Beauchamp, 4th Earl of Warwick, (d. July 8, 1401), one of the leaders in the resistance to England's king Richard II.
He succeeded his father, Thomas I de Beauchamp, as earl in 1369. He served on the lords' committee of reform in the Good Parliament in 1376 and again in 1377, and he was a member of the commission of inquiry in 1379. Appointed governor to Richard II in February 1381, Warwick joined the nobles who sought to impose their authority on the king and was one of the lords appellant in 1388.
After the overthrow of his party in 1389, Warwick lived in retirement; but, although he had for the moment escaped Richard's vengeance, he was not forgiven. Being invited with both Thomas of Woodstock, Duke of Gloucester, and Thomas Arundel to a banquet at court on July 10, 1397, he alone of the three was imprudent enough to obey the summons. He was immediately arrested and imprisoned in the Tower of London, in that part of the fortress since known as the Beauchamp Tower. Warwick made a full confession in Parliament; his honours were forfeited, and he himself banished.
