Sir Edmund de Mortimer was born in 1252 in Wigmore, Herefordshire, England.  Sir Edmund de Mortimer's father was Roger de Mortimer Baron Wigmore and his mother was Maud de Braose.  His paternal grandparents were Ralph de Mortimer Baron Wigmore and Gwladus Ddu "the Dark verch Llywelyn Fawr; his maternal grandparents were William "Black Will" de Braose Lord Brecknock and Eva Marshal. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Ralph, Geoffrey, Roger, William, Isabella and Isolde (Iseude). He had a half-sister named Gwenllian.  He died at the age of 52 on July 17th, 1304 in Wigmore Castle, Herefordshire.

‌Sir Edmund de Mortimer and Eleanor (Margaret) were married in a religious ceremony in 1285.  They had five sons and four daughters, named Sir Roger de Mortimer, Hugh, Walter, Edmund, John, Matilda, Joan, Elizabeth and Margaret.
