In the 28th Henry III [1244], Peter de Genevill, a ProvenAal, stated by Matthew of Paris to have been a man of humble birth, and by others to have been Lord of Vancouleur and brother of John de Geneville, or Joinville, the historian of the crusade of St. Louis, was governor of Windsor Castle and dying in 1249, was s. by his son and heir, Sir Geoffrey de Genevill.
