High Steward Walter III Stewart Of Scotland 
Walter III was born in 1175 in Scotland.1 Walter III's father was High Steward Alan II De Hesdin Of Scotland and his mother was Margaret De Galloway. His paternal grandparents were High Steward Walter I De Hesdin Of Scotland and Eschyne De Molle; his maternal grandparents were Lord Fergus De Galloway and Elizabeth Joan Fitzhenry Of England. He had two brothers and a sister, named Simon, David and Eupheme. He was the second oldest of the four children. He had a half-sister named Avelina. He died at the age of 66 in 1241.1 General Notes

ABT 1219 elevated Paisley Priory to Abbey status
ABT 1230 became Justiciar of Scotland north of the ForthWalter was theThird Great Steward of Scotland and the first one to assume the surnameof Stewart from his office. He raised Paisley Priory to the rank of anAbbacy about 1219. Walter was Justiciar of Scotland north of Forth from1230 as appointed by King Alexander II. He was sent in 1238 as anambassador to negotiate a marriage with Mary, the daughter of IngleramCount de Coucy. He imitated his progenitors in founding a monastery atDalmulin upon the Ayr. When he died in 1246, he was buried in the abbeyof Paisley.
