Gilbert was born on September 2nd, 1243. Gilbert's father was Richard De Clare and his mother was Maud De Burgh. His paternal grandparents were Gilbert De Clare and Isabelle Marshall; his maternal grandparents were Lord Hubert De Burgh Of Kent and Princess Margaret De Huntington Of Scotland. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William, Thomas, Adeliza, Agnes, Roese and Margaret. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 52 on December 7th, 1295.
