Robert Glover Whitten 
Robert Glover was born on December 8th, 1887 in Oenaville, Bell Co., Texas.1 Robert Glover's father was Robert Weir Johnson Whitten and his mother was Lucy Emma Davis. His paternal grandparents were Alfred Carnes Whitten and Sarah Frances Kenneda; his maternal grandparents were Reuben E Davis and Elizabeth Whitaker. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Reuben Luther, Jewel Clark, Ernest William, Mary Edith, Lela Gertrude, Ida Alwilda, Lillian Ruth and Grace. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 79 on March 14th, 1967 in Vernon, Wilbarger, Texas. He was buried on March 15th, 1967 in Vernon, Wilbarger, Texas, Wilbarger Mem. Glover and Ruth Whitten owned and operated a farm near Rayland, Texas for many years. There they built their home and raised their entire family. As I was growing up in Crowell, Texas, I looked forward to the family gatherings that were held there several times each year. The Whittens and several of the Simmonds would gather there for holidays or other special occasions. This was a great time for all of the cousins to get together while the adults visited. We would go down to the river, which was nearby, or we would set up "forts" in the thickets near the house. It was not uncommon for me to spend several days there in the summer time with one or more of my cousins. We had great adventures during this time, and Mom and Pop's farm was and endless source of entertainment for us. I will always have many fond memories of these times. Mom and Pop retired from farming in the early 1960's. They sold the farm and moved to Vernon, Texas where they remained until their deaths. Mike Whitten
