Mary Edith was born on October 12th, 1881 in Franklin, Heard Co., Georgia.1 Mary Edith's father was Robert Weir Johnson Whitten and her mother was Lucy Emma Davis. Her paternal grandparents were Alfred Carnes Whitten and Sarah Frances Kenneda; her maternal grandparents were Reuben E Davis and Elizabeth Whitaker. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Reuben Luther, Robert Glover, Jewel Clark, Ernest William, Lela Gertrude, Ida Alwilda, Lillian Ruth and Grace. She was the oldest of the nine children.-
