John Robert Butler 
John Robert was born in January 1874 in Trimble County, Kentucky. John Robert's father was Joseph Forest Butler and his mother was Nancy Jane Pendleton. His paternal grandparents were John Ferguson Butler and Frances Jane Farley; his maternal grandparents were Robert H. Pendleton and Sarah "Sallie" Peak. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin Franklin , Charles, Joseph Foster, Mark Collis, Sarah "Sallie", Mary Elizabeth and Ely. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children.General Notes

"In March of 1875 Joseph and Nancy Jane purchased a farm in the Liberty neighborhood of Trimble County and moved their family there. Their third daughter, Ely, named for the well-liked Dr. Ely, was born 7 February 1877. John Robert, the seventh child, arrived in January 1879."
