Katie Lou Alva was born on January 8th, 1913 in Saluda County, South Carolina.1 Katie Lou Alva's father was Henry Levi Kempson and her mother was Minnie Shealy. Her maternal grandparents were Luther Shealy and Martha Bowers. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Arthur Alvin, James Luther, Leland Austin, Mary Ellen (Mae) and Myrtle Lee. She was the youngest of the six children. She died at the age of 75 on October 5th, 1988 in Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina. She was buried in Elmwood Cemetry, Columbia, South Carolina.1 1 -
