Ora Lou was born on December 24th, 1897 in Laurel, Henrico Co., VA. Ora Lou's father was Thomas Mifflin Ladd and her mother was Katherine Frances Childress. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mifflin Ladd and Lucy Elizabeth Cowardin. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Edward Quarles, Walter Ira, Marion Calvin, Annie Elizabeth, Eva Frances and Ota Lee. She was the third youngest of the seven children. She had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Bernard Goodall, Robert Hill, James Russell, Thomas Mifflin, Lucy Winston, Ellen Douglas and Sarah Mildred.-
