Thomas Mifflin was born on November 18th, 1843 in Hanover Co., VA. Thomas Mifflin's father was Thomas Mifflin Ladd and his mother was Lucy Elizabeth Cowardin. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Ladd and Ann Bell; his maternal grandparents were John Lewis Cowardin and Mary Rhodes White. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Aaron Burr, John Bell, Robert Anderson, Jane McKenzie, Mary Ann and Lucy Lavalette. He was the second oldest of the seven children.-
