Marion Calvin was born on April 4th, 1902. Marion Calvin's father was Thomas Mifflin Ladd and his mother was Katherine Frances Childress. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Mifflin Ladd and Lucy Elizabeth Cowardin. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Edward Quarles, Walter Ira, Annie Elizabeth, Eva Frances, Ora Lou and Ota Lee. He was the youngest of the seven children. He had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Bernard Goodall, Robert Hill, James Russell, Thomas Mifflin, Lucy Winston, Ellen Douglas and Sarah Mildred.-
