Laura Helen was born on March 15th, 1836 in "Red Hill", Charlotte Co., Virginia. Laura Helen's father was John Henry and her mother was Elvira Bruce McClelland. Her paternal grandparents were Patrick Henry and Dorothea Dandridge; her maternal grandparents were Thomas Stanhope McClelland and Margaret Cabell. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William Wirt, Thomas Stanhope McClelland, John, Margaret Ann, Elvira and Emma Cabell. She was the third youngest of the seven children.-
