John was born on February 16th, 1796 in "Red Hill", Charlotte Co., Virginia.  John's father was Patrick Henry and his mother was Dorothea Dandridge.  His paternal grandparents were John Henry and Sarah Winston; his maternal grandparents were Nathaniel West Dandridge and Dorothea Spotswood. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Patrick, Nathaniel West, George Lafayette, Alexander Spotswood, Richard, Edward Winston, Dorothea Spotswood, Sarah Butler, Martha Catherine and Jane Robertson.  He was the second youngest of the eleven children. He had three half-brothers and three half-sisters, named John, William, Edward, Martha, Anne and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 71 on January 7th, 1868 in "Red Hill", Charlotte Co., Virginia.
