James Clayton

James was born in 1809.¹ James' father was James Clayton and his mother was Sarah Carraway. His maternal grandparents were Nathaniel Carraway and Mary Whitehurst. He had a brother and five sisters, named Dempsey, Betsey, Mary "Polly", Fanny, Rhoda Ann and Rhoda Ann (II). He was the sixth oldest of the seven children. He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Joshua Elliott, Elijah Mixon, William McKendree, Harriet Asbury and Johanna Bruce "Jo".
