William George was born in 1874 in Burston, Norfolk, England.  William George's father was John POTTER and his mother was Christiana Mary BECK.  His paternal grandparents were George POTTER and Elizabeth BALE. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Ezra John, Sidney Clarke, Edward King, Gordon Stanley, Mildred Alice, Laurina Kate, Mabel Beatrice, Gertrude Emma, Edith Edna and Alice Louisa.  He was the oldest of the eleven children.
