Edward King was born in 1888 in Burston, Norfolk, England.  Edward King's father was John POTTER and his mother was Christiana Mary BECK.  His paternal grandparents were George POTTER and Elizabeth BALE. He had four brothers and six sisters, named William George, Ezra John, Sidney Clarke, Gordon Stanley, Mildred Alice, Laurina Kate, Mabel Beatrice, Gertrude Emma, Edith Edna and Alice Louisa.  He was the third youngest of the eleven children.
