Minnie was born in 1862 in East Peckham, Kent, England.  Minnie's father was John Walter MARTIN and her mother was Mary MARTIN.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Mary; her maternal grandparents were William MARTIN and Mary TURNER. She had two brothers and four sisters, named George Henry, Henry, Rose A, Emily, Elizabeth Jane and Clara Louisa.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
