Mary was born in 1831 in Tudely & Capel, Kent, England.  Mary's father was William MARTIN and her mother was Mary TURNER.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann. She had two brothers and three sisters, named William, Alfred, Harriett, Sophia and Esther.  She was the oldest of the six children.
