Sophia was born in 1840 in Tudely & Capel, Kent, England.  Sophia's father was William MARTIN and her mother was Mary TURNER.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann. She had two brothers and three sisters, named William, Alfred, Mary, Harriett and Esther.  She was the third oldest of the six children.
