Henry was born in 1858 in Tonbridge, Kent.  Henry's father was John Walter MARTIN and his mother was Mary MARTIN.  His paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Mary; his maternal grandparents were William MARTIN and Mary TURNER. He had a brother and five sisters, named George Henry, Rose A, Minnie, Emily, Elizabeth Jane and Clara Louisa.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
