Thomas Tonge was born in 1799 in Leeds, Kent.  Thomas Tonge's father was James BOULDEN and his mother was Catherine PATTENDEN.  His paternal grandparents were David BOULDEN and Sarah STANLEY. He had three brothers and two sisters, named David, James, George, Ann and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the six children.
