Thomas' father was James Macomb and his mother was Nancy Gorham. His maternal grandparents were Capt Benjamin Gorham and Nancy Ann Hinckley. He had two sisters named Frances and Louise. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Francis, James and Anita.¹
