James' father was Anthony Glean and his mother was Nancy Gorham. His maternal grandparents were Capt Benjamin Gorham and Nancy Ann Hinckley. He had a brother and a sister, named Francis and Anita. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Thomas, Frances and Louise.¹
