Julius was born in 1780 in , Iredell, North Carolina.  Julius' father was Julius Keeton and his mother was Rebecca Redford. He had nine brothers named Tobias Canton, Allen, Miles, William, John, Peter, Joshua, James and Joel.  He was the fourth youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 61 in 1841.  He was buried in Beechwood, , Newton, Arkansas.
