Mary was born in 1882 in Paisley.

Mary's father was William Towers and her mother was Jane Fraser. Her paternal grandparents were Michael Towers and Janet Mathie; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Fraser and Helen Hamilton. She had four brothers and five sisters, named William, William, Alexander, Archibald, Janet, Margaret, Janet, Helen and Jane. She was the fourth youngest of the ten children. She died from a stroke at the age of 81 on May 12th, 1963.
