John was born on February 8th, 1806 in Whitby, North Yorkshire, England and his baptism took place there on February 12th, 1806.1   John's father was Peter FORREST and his mother was Jane PEACOCK. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named Robert, Peter, Thomas, Elizabeth, Jane, Mary, Martha, Ann, Grace and Martha.  He was the seventh oldest of the eleven children.
