William was born about 1143 in , , Scotland.  William's father was Henry MacCrinan and his mother was Adelaide De Warrene.  His paternal grandparents were David MacCrinan and Maud Matilda De Huntingdon; his maternal grandparents were William II De Warrene and Elizabeth Isabel de Crepi De Vermandois. He had a brother named David.  He was the older of the two children.  He died on December 4th, 1214 in Stirling, Stirlingshire, Scotland.  He was buried on December 10th, 1214 in Arbroath Abbey in Angus.


William's first family with Isabel De Avenal

‌William and Isabel were married in a religious ceremony about 1163.  They had a daughter named Isabel.


William's second family with Ermengarde De Beaumont

‌William and Ermengarde were married in a religious ceremony on September 5th, 1189 in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, England.  They had a son named Alexander.
