Joan was born in Westminster, Middlesex, England.  Joan's father was John "Fairborn" Beaufort and her mother was Margaret De Holand.  Her paternal grandparents were John of Gaunt and Katherine De Roet; her maternal grandparents were Thomas De Holand and Alice Fitzalan. She had four brothers and a sister, named Henry, John, Thomas, Edmund and Margaret.  She died on July 15th, 1445 in Dunbar Castle, East Lothian,  Scotland.  She was buried in Perth.

‌Joan and James were married in a religious ceremony in 1439.  They had two sons named John Stewart of and James.


Joan's second family with James I Stewart of Scotland

‌Joan and James I Stewart of were married in a religious ceremony in St. Mary's Overy, Southwark, Surrey, England.  They had two sons and six daughters, named Alexander (Twin Brother of James II), James II "Hearty James", Annabella, Joan, Daughter, Daughter, Daughter and Daughter.
