Her paternal grandfather is Russell Augustus *Prickett and her paternal grandmother was Anna Elizabeth Forsyth *Watley; her maternal grandparents were Nicholas Buchanan Riddle and Ninnie Rebecca Black. She had four brothers and three sisters, named Olen Tyson, Buck, Gene, Charley, Grace, Mary Lena and Carrie Lee. She was the second oldest of the eight children.
