His paternal grandparents were King Robert I King of France and of Vermandois Queen of France Beatrice. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Otto Eudes , Duke of Burgundy, Duke of Lower Burgundy, Heinrich I, Duke of Burgundy, Heribert [illegitimate], Beatrix , of France, Lady of Normandy, Emma and Beatrix of France, Duchess of Upper Lorraine. He had seven half-brothers and nine half-sisters, named Herbert Hugues, King of France, Prince of the Franks, Charles, Charles Duke of Lower, Duke of Lower Lorraine, Charles, Alberade of, Countess of Vermandois, Hedwig, Countess of Luxembourg, Albrade of Lorraine, Gerberge of Lorraine, Princess of the Franks, Matilda of France, Matilda (Maud) Princess of and of France, Queen of Burgundy. He died at the age of 57 on October 24th, 0996 in Les Juifs, Chartres, France. He was buried in October 0996 in St. Denis, France.2 3 General Notes

Capet, family name of the dynasty of kings that ruled France from 987 to1328. In 987, on the death of Louis V, the last of the Carolingian kingsof France, Hugh Capet, duke of France and count of Paris, was electedking by the nobility and the clergy. The feudal domain of the Capetfamily was Île de France, the area around Paris. The Capetian kingsgreatly strengthened the royal power in France by insisting on theprinciples of heredity, primogeniture, and indivisibility of crown lands.Shortly after Hugh became king, he had his son Robert crowned as RobertII (known as the Pious). Hugh appointed Robert his associate, and thispractice of the father having his eldest son rule with him was followeduntil the late 12th century.
The greatest of the Capetian kings were Philip II Augustus, Louis IX (St.Louis), and Philip IV. The dynasty secured direct overlordship of almostall France by the process of incorporating additional fiefs, large andsmall, with their own territories. In 1328, when Charles IV died withoutmale heirs, the Capetians were succeeded by the Valois, a younger branchof the family, which ruled France until 1580.
