Beuford B. Basham 
Beuford B. was born on August 5th, 1849 in Barren Co., Kentucky.1 Beuford B.'s father was Nathan Basham and his mother was Mahala Preston. His paternal grandparents were John, Jr. Basham and Frances (Franky) Meadors; his maternal grandparents were Moses Preston and Ana (Sparkey) Amos. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John Moses, William Henry, Harvey E., Irene (Arena), Sarah E. and Sparta A. (Annie). He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 65 on March 3rd, 1915 in Grandview, Johnson Co., Texas.1 General Notes

Buford Basham was born in August 1849 as the third child of Nathan Ba
sh am and Mahala Preston in Barren County Kentucky. Little is known of h
is ch ildhood except this area of Kentucky is a tobacco growing area a
nd he prob ably grew up on a tobacco farm helping the family raise tobacc
o. He marri ed Mary Jane Hall in 1873 at the age of 23 in Barren Co Kentuc
ky. Four chi ldren were born in Kentucky before Buford moved his fami
ly to Johnson Coun ty Texas between 1880 and 1882. His mother-in-law Eli
za Dickerson Hall w as in Johnson County with another daughter, Dilla A
nn Hall, who had marri ed and divorced Buford's younger brother, Harvey ea
rlier. Buford and fami ly probably moved there because of these other rela
tives in the area. A to tal of 11 children were born to Buford and Mary Ja
ne while Buford liv ed as a farmer in central Texas. Buford met an untime
ly death at the a ge of 65 when he was accidentally shot by his youngest s
on, Walter, whi le Walter was cleaning a gun in the family home. Bufo
rd is buried with h is wife in the central part of the old Grandview cemet
ery.
