Martinis (Martin) was born about 1693 in Flatlands, Kings, New York. Martinis (Martin)'s father was Pieter (Peter) Nevius (Nefus) and his mother was Janetje (Jonica) Roelofse Schenck. His paternal grandparents were Joannes NEVIUS and Adriaentje BLEIJCK; his maternal grandparents were Roelof Martinse Schenck and Neeltje Gerretse Van Couwenhoven. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Johannes, Roeloff, Cornelis, Pieter, David, Johannes, Aeltje, Aaltie, Neeltje, Arientje and Adriantje. He was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.
