II was born about 1245 in Artois, France.  II's father was Count of Artois Robert and his mother was Maud (Matilda) De Brabant.  His paternal grandparents were Louis VIII "The Lion" Capet and Blanche of Castile; his maternal grandparents were II Henri and Maria von Hohenstaufen. He had a sister named Blanche.  He was the older of the two children. He had a half-brother named Guy III.  He died on July 11th, 1302 in Kortrijk, Flandres.  He was buried in L'Abbaye De Maubuisson.


II's first family with Amicie De Courtenay

‌II and Amicie were married in a religious ceremony on June 13th, 1262.  They had two sons and a daughter, named Philippe, Robert III and Mathilde (Mahaut).


II's second family with Agnes De Bourbon

‌II and Agnes were married in a religious ceremony in 1277.
